OGS LAWN RENOVATION AND REJUVENATION

The health of your lawn reflects on the appearance of your property. Having a lush, thick lawn is not only visually appealing, but more resistant to insects, disease and weeds. The following services provided by OGS Grounds Maintenance will not only help to rejuvenate your lawn, but also to maintain its health and vigor.

AERATING

Aerating- is the mechanical process of removing small plugs of soil and turf, known as core aeration.

Aerating benefits the lawn by allowing air and water to reach and circulate around the grass roots. By creating theses holes the required oxygen, water infiltration and nutrients penetrate deeper into the soil driving root systems to follow. With a deeper root system lawns can better sustain itself through periods of drought or other environmental stresses.

Compaction of soil is another problem corrected by aerating. Heavy traffic areas don't allow valuable fertilizers and nutrients to infiltrate into the soil due to run off. Aerating also benefits the thatch layer of your lawn by encouraging the breakdown and decomposition of thatch by soil microorganisms.

DETHATCHING

Thatch can choke your lawn, harbor insects and create a water barrier that can prevent new grass growth. This involves actually cutting through the thatch layer with knife like blades and removing debris. It is easiest when the soil is slightly moist, such as in the spring before the vigorous growth cycle.

TOP DRESSING

All turf will benefit from an application of top dress. This is the process of adding a fine layer of mixed soil to the lawn surface. This benefits the lawn as it builds up the quality of the soil over a period of time. Another benefit of top dressing the lawn is that it helps even out lumps and bumps on an uneven lawn, filling in any depressions that may develop. Top dressing also stimulates the grass to produce new shoots, which results in denser turf, helping combat weed and insect problems.
